IRB was modeled on the pattern of Central Police Force CPF. There are two Reserve Battalions one at Bidhannagar, Durgapur, Burdwan and the other at Siliguri. These are connected with the other parts of the State by Roads & Railways. The primary role of the IRB is to combat terrorism in different areas. It handle the serious law and order problems and provide touch support to local police forces. IRB includes five battalions such as Jammu & Kashmir, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Orissa, Maharashtra.
